Period Inspiration:

The Somerset Acanthus-Rosette Banquet Console belongs to that distinguished lineage of late Georgian and early Regency dining furniture - a period when English cabinetmakers, inspired by the archaeological fervor of the 18th century, refined classical ornament into an art of quiet grandeur.

Carved in richly figured teak wood and elevated on tall, tapering, reeded legs, this console bears every hallmark associated with the Hepplewhite–Sheraton neoclassical vocabulary:
- Acanthus-wrapped capitals at the leg heads
- Rosette roundels centered on the drawers and doors
- Flowing scrollwork friezes recalling Roman arabesques
- Gadroonéd and moulded top edges typical of high-end English workshops circa 1790–1810

The console’s arched apron, its finely modelled scroll-and-floral frieze, and the proportional symmetry of its cabinet compartments express the desire of the age to blend rational order with ornamental delicacy.

It is a work that bridges the elegance of Somerset’s landed estates with the cosmopolitan aspirations of Regency-era England - an heirloom-quality console that speaks in the refined visual language of the late 18th century.
